Matrix RREF Calculator
Reduced Row Echelon Form:
What is Reduced Row Echelon Form of a Matrix?
The Reduced Row Echelon Form (RREF) of a matrix is a special form of a matrix obtained through Gaussian elimination (row operations). It has the following properties:
- Leading 1 (Pivot): The first nonzero entry in each row is a 1 (called a leading 1 or pivot).
- Staircase Pattern: Each leading 1 is to the right of the leading 1 in the row above it.
- Zero Above & Below Pivots: All entries above and below each pivot are 0.
- Zero Rows at Bottom: Any rows consisting entirely of zeros are at the bottom.
